Twenty-One
I turned 21 on Saturday! Thanks for all the birthday wishes!
I don’t feel any different, but does anyone really feel their age? I’m convinced this is going to be an awesome year, though. I have supportive family and friends, and a whole bunch of things to look forward to. So here’s a short (but not comprehensive) bucket list I made for myself to complete before the next birthday.
21 things to do in my 21st year:
- Write letters to my future self (my parents got me a “letters to my future self” book for my birthday)
- Publish an article in The Lantern or another OSU newspaper
- Volunteer for CRIS (Community Refugee and Immigration Services) or World Relief Columbus
- Visit the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London
- Get an editorial or nonprofit internship in a different city next summer
- Visit my friend Rebecca at her co-op in Savannah, Georgia
- Visit another friend in their city or at their college
- Take a walk through all the buildings/places on campus I haven’t been before
- Read all the books on my current book list (which consists of a lot of classic literature that I’ve never read before)
- Take a wine or brewery tour with my roommates
- Visit the locations of famous British books/authors mentioned in the book Literary London
- Tour all the free museums in London (e.g. the British Museum)
- Drink wine/eat cheese in front of the Eiffel tower
- Once a month, visit a new (or old favorite) place–especially in my own city–where I don’t usually go
- Return to visit Chicago/Aurora where I grew up
- Attend several more concerts than I did last year
- Write creatively for five to ten hours a week
- Refine my watercoloring skills by painting once a week
- Start playing the piano again (seriously, why’d I stop??)
- Write a series of short essays about various topics/themes in my life, and submit one to the New York Times’ “Modern Love” competition
- Be adventurous: take more risks and be willing to endure uncertainty and discomfort.
Cheers to 21!
