Some British-themed birthday gifts from Rachel (for my study abroad next semester)

I don’t feel any different, but does anyone really feel their age? I’m convinced this is going to be an awesome year, though. I have supportive family and friends, and a whole bunch of things to look forward to. So here’s a short (but not comprehensive) bucket list I made for myself to complete before the next birthday.

21 things to do in my 21st year:

  1. Write letters to my future self (my parents got me a “letters to my future self” book for my birthday)
  2. Publish an article in The Lantern or another OSU newspaper
  3. Volunteer for CRIS (Community Refugee and Immigration Services) or World Relief Columbus
  4. Visit the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London
  5. Get an editorial or nonprofit internship in a different city next summer
  6. Visit my friend Rebecca at her co-op in Savannah, Georgia
  7. Visit another friend in their city or at their college
  8. Take a walk through all the buildings/places on campus I haven’t been before
  9. Read all the books on my current book list (which consists of a lot of classic literature that I’ve never read before)
  10. Take a wine or brewery tour with my roommates
  11. Visit the locations of famous British books/authors mentioned in the book Literary London
  12. Tour all the free museums in London (e.g. the British Museum)
  13. Drink wine/eat cheese in front of the Eiffel tower
  14. Once a month, visit a new (or old favorite) place–especially in my own city–where I don’t usually go
  15. Return to visit Chicago/Aurora where I grew up
  16. Attend several more concerts than I did last year
  17. Write creatively for five to ten hours a week
  18. Refine my watercoloring skills by painting once a week
  19. Start playing the piano again (seriously, why’d I stop??)
  20. Write a series of short essays about various topics/themes in my life, and submit one to the New York Times’ “Modern Love” competition
  21. Be adventurous: take more risks and be willing to endure uncertainty and discomfort.

Cheers to 21!
